Fast. Frequent. Fairmount. 🚂
To attract more riders during the COVID-19 pandemic, the MBTA aimed to engage the public in a more transparent and efficient way. They extended and added new lines and departure times, with a focus on the Fairmount Commuter Rail. Although they couldn't guarantee safety while traveling by train, they promised to take additional safety measures and enforce capacity limits.
The Fairmount Line was optimized to provide the fastest and most frequent train ride on the Eastern Seaboard, with modifications made between Readville and South Station. This made it the most efficient commute for residents of Greater South Boston traveling into Boston.
We saved you a seat.
The MBTA aimed to launch a campaign that directly addressed COVID-19 safety concerns and emphasized the availability of open space. They introduced capacity limits, increased the number of trains, and added more departure times. The goal was to highlight that uncomfortable and slow train rides with limited space were no longer an issue.
